After Steve Harvey goofed and announced the wrong Miss Universe, it looked like his beauty pageant hosting days were over. But Steve has one fan that wants to see him host the show again: Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, Miss Universe herself, who thinks he was a ‘breath of fresh air.’
While Steve Harvey, 58, continues to deal with the humiliation of announcing the wrong Miss Universe, the actual winter, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, 26, thinks he shouldn’t be so hard on himself because, in her opinion, he did a fine job. Despite Steve flubbing his line and first crowning Ariadna Gutierrez, 22, Pia would be fine if Steve came back to host the event next year!
“Yeah, why not?” Pia said during her interview on the Jan. 4 episode of Good Morning America. “He’s a breath of fresh air. He made us feel very relaxed, the contestants — it made us show our personality a bit more and that benefits everybody, especially the viewers.”
It’s that’s kind of gracious, forgiving answer that won Pia the crown. She has even forgiven Steve, saying, “He’s human. People make mistakes.” When asked her thoughts on why Steve announced Miss Colombia instead of Miss Philippines, Pia suggested that the card with the names of the winner and runner-ups was too difficult to read.
Steve must be glad that Pia’s coming to his defense. His major flub suddenly became one of the biggest memes on the Internet. Even Justin Bieber got in on the action, mocking the Family Feud host. Steve tried to apologize for the screw-up, but accidentally made a second epic mistake by having some misspellings in his apology tweet. Whoops! Well, it’s the thought that counts.
Pia may get her wish. Steve reportedly signed a multi-year deal with WME/IMG, the company that owns the Miss Universe Organization, according to Entertainment Tonight. Plus, WME/IMG reportedly “really loves” him and has “no qualms” with having him back to host next year. It looks like Miss Universe fans will get plenty of Steve Harvey in the future.
Steve is desperate to redeem himself since the damage to his reputation has him feeling incredibly embarrassed. “He can’t go out like this,” a source close to Steve EXCLUSIVELY tells HollywoodLife.com. Steve wants another chance to “to host the pageant…so he can restore integrity to his name and pride in the pageant.”
What do you think, HollywoodLifers? Do you agree with Pia and think that Steve was a breath of fresh air? Do you want to see him host the show again?
