Donald Trump and Megyn Kelly were one of the most talked about political battles of 2015, thanks to their heated showdown at the first GOP debate. But, in a new interview, Megyn claimed The Donald actually tried to charm her onto Team Trump ahead of their Republican debate rumble.
Donald Trump, 69, seemed to take on everybody during the 2015 campaign season: Jeb Bush, 62, immigrants and, of course, Megyn Kelly. The 45-year-old Fox News journalist and political commentator clashed with Donald, but before they were frenemies, Donald actually tried to win Megyn’s vote — and her political heart!
Donald “would send me press clippings about me that he would just sign, ‘Donald Trump’ and he called from time to time to compliment a segment,” Megyn revealed during an interview in the Feb. 2016 issue of Vanity Fair, according to E! News. “I didn’t know why he was doing that and then when he announced that he was running for president, it became more clear.”
Seems that Donald was trying to get a head’s start on winning over Megyn as a supporter. Of course, we all know how well that worked out — the two clashed during the Aug. 6 GOP debate when Megyn brought up Donald’s history of misogynistic comments towards Rosie O’Donnell. When the debate was over, Donald decided to bast Megyn’s tenure as a moderator saying, “You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes. Blood coming out of her wherever.”
Uh, gross, Donald. Comments like that — or the incredibly sexist remarks he’s made about his political rival, Hillary Clinton — aren’t going to get Megyn at a Trump 2016 rally, but she wasn’t going to attend in the first place. “I can’t be wooed,” Megyn told Vanity Fair. “I was never going to love him and I was never going to hate him.”
Never going to hate Donald Trump? Challenge accepted! On Aug. 24, Donald went on a Twitter tirade against Megyn, calling her a “bimbo” before saying she had “no clue” about how to do her job. “I liked The Kelly File much better without [her],” Donald also wrote. “Perhaps she could take another eleven day unscheduled vacation!”
Donald wasn’t the only GOP candidate taking aim at Megyn. Ted Cruz got in on the action after the debate, dissing her as a “mainstream liberal journalist.” Uh, really? These kind of insults might fly once again, when Donald, Ted and the rest of the Republicans meet Megyn and her Fox News moderators for the Jan. 28 debate.
What do you think about Donald trying to win Megyn over before he began running for president, HollywoodLifers? Are you going to vote for him if he’s the Republican presidential candidate?
