We learned a lot about Elijah from his performance as the lovable Scarecrow in The Wiz Live! , like he’s incredibly handsome, a fantastic actor and has some killer dance moves. But now we’ve been craving more info about the dreamboat, so we got down to business and found out everything you could want to know about him. Here are five facts to acquaint you with the Broadway hottie.
1. You can see Elijah perform (and hear his amazing voice) in some major family favorites like Hairspray, This Is 40, and Strange Magic. He had an amazing role in Hairspray as Seaweed, and totally killed it!
2. Elijah is a huge Michael Jackson fan, and was honored to be taking on the role of the Scarecrow after him. “I don’t want to outdo Mike. I don’t want to overdo,” he added at a SiriusXM town hall. “There’s big footprints to fill, but I know that God’s blessed me with the ability to honor.” Honor he did!
3. This is Elijah’s second time working with Queen Latifah, the first was in Hairspray in 2007.
4. Of course Elijah is an amazing actor and incredible dancer, but singing always comes first. He shared an Instagram photo of himself belting out a tune with the caption “1st love. Surrender to your passion.” We’re so glad Elijah surrendered to his passion!
5. Elijah’s hero is Sammy Davis Jr., and he posted this heartfelt message on the deceased crooners birthday last year. “December 8, 1925 is the day that THE MOST TALENTED Individual performer to have ever walked this earth was born. Sammy Davis Jr. You are the best. You always were, even from a child. You were discriminated against, brutalized, demeaned, and at times rejected by your own….but through it all. You are a true Artist and a rebel inspiration that exemplifies that NOTHING should stop your dream.”
Elijah seems to be following in his idol’s footsteps, proving himself to be an amazing performer, actor, and singer. We can’t think of anyone more perfect for the role of the brainless, but brilliant, Scarecrow in The Wiz on Dec. 3. We can’t wait to see what comes next from this amazing young talent!
