President Barack Obama is celebrating the 68th anniversary of the National Thanksgiving Turkey presentation on Nov. 25. This year, the two turkeys being presented to the president are Honest and Abe. Now comes the hard part, saving only one.
“There are certain days when I remember why I ran for this office,” said President Barack Obama at his first turkey pardon, in 2009. “And then there are moments like this.” Now here he is once again, using his power to save one turkey from a Thanksgiving table.
Most of us have come to know the presidential turkey only at the moment the commander-in-chief spares him from being a Thanksgiving meal. There is “Honest,” according to the White House, was born July 28, 2015 and his strut style is listed as “Skoots in Boots.” While his rival is “Abe” and also likes country, but his strut style is listed as “Macho Man.” This year’s name choices were submitted by schoolchildren in California.
The presidential turkey pardon has become a Thanksgiving tradition. Since 1947, the chairman of the National Turkey Federation has presented a turkey to the President for national, official pardon. Watch either Honest or Abe get the official pardon below!
