Adele has broken the record for most albums sold in first week sales, beating the previous record-holder, *NSYNC. The boys aren’t sore losers, though, and they even took time to personally congratulate Adele!
That’s how you pass the torch! *NSYNC‘s 2000 album, No Strings Attached, had been the record-holder for first week sales– until Adele, 27, dropped her new record, 25, on Nov. 20, effectively ending the boyband’s reign. Several of the band’s members gave Adele their stamp of approval, including Joey Fatone, 38, and JC Chasez, 39. See what they had to say!
More than 15 years ago, *NSYNC sold 2,416,000 in a single week, which ended on March 26, 2000. It was a totally impressive feat, and yet, it was no match for Adele and her sultry pipes.
The British songstress beat the boyband’s record– and in under a week. Within the first three days of its release, 25 sold 2,433,000 in album sales, a number confirmed by Nielsen Music on Nov. 24. In other words: dayum, Adele.
Joey spoke out on Adele beating the group’s record, and he was certainly not bitter– actually, he may have contributed to her besting them! “Records are always meant to be broken, but with technology and current music business model, I thought this one would be tough to beat,” he said in an interview with Billboard. “In all honesty, Adele is the truth — kinda excited a rare talent like hers is in the same breath as our group. I’m a huge fan….I even bought the damn album.” We all did, Joey. We all did.
JC took to Twitter to congratulate the golden-throated beltress, writing simply, “Well done Adele.” You can see his tweet below.

Are you sad that Adele has crushed *NSYNC’s record? Or are you stoked because, like, Adele is just that amazing?
