If you’re a huge ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ fan, then you may want to be sitting down for this. While promoting her new partnership with Boston Market this holiday season, Kate Walsh told HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY that she has no interest in returning to the ABC drama.
So many characters have come and gone throughout 12 seasons of Grey’s Anatomy, and while we always hold out hope for fan-favorites to return, Kate Walsh, 48, told us EXCLUSIVELY that Addison probably won’t be one of them.
Kate, who is currently promoting her joint venture with Boston Market this holiday season, was more than happy to reminisce on the past — specifically, her role on both Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice. And when the topic came up, we had to ask her if she’d ever return to the original series now that her spinoff has ended its run on ABC.
“I love [Shonda Rhimes] and we’re tight, and we definitely want to work together again. But I just feel like I played Addison, and I’m so happy fans love that character and it’s so memorable. It was a great role for me to play — I’m happy and grateful and thrilled that I got to do it, but I did it for 9 years, so for me, just as an actress, it’s important to move on. So that’s what I’m focused on. I’m looking for the next thing I want to do. I’m looking to do a play in New York. I’m looking to do the next series. And that’s sort of where I’m at with it. But again, I’m thrilled people loved it and she became such an iconic character,” Kate told HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY.
When asked if that’s the reason why she didn’t return for Derek’s (Patrick Dempsey) funeral during Season 11 of Grey’s, Kate told us, “I don’t know. I’m not a writer in the writer’s room. It’s not up to me and also, it’s just like yeah… yeah. Like I said, I’m thrilled other people think about it, but it’s sort of like — look I have favorite characters that were sort of iconic for me as a kid, and no one ever wants it to end, but it does.”
Well, that settles that. It doesn’t sound like we’ll ever see Addison back at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. Such a bummer.
However, on a positive note, Kate shared some super awesome Thanksgiving recipes, which consist of items from Boston Market’s menu! She recently teamed up with the restaurant to create “holiday hacks” that use the delicious, home-style sides of Boston Market as the base.
“The ‘holiday hacks’ of taking an item from Boston Market is awesome — it’s always a solid standby. Yummy, delicious, and just as good as home cooking. So to be able to supplement your meal or get your whole meal from there and just doctor it up and make it yours, then you get more time to spend with the people that you love,” Kate told us before adding, “I love cooking. I love making mashed potatoes, but their mashed potatoes are great. So sometimes I’ll bring them home and put a little truffle oil on top and then that’s mine. And people are like, ‘oh my gosh!’ It’s the same with cream spinach — the side — like I love that, but I’ll never make it. There are other things I make, like cream turnips and stuffing and stuff, but you know, even with macaroni and cheese. I love it, but to make it homemade is too labor intensive. That’s a night all in itself. So I get it from there and then either doctor it up with your own thing — whether you want to put crumbled bacon on it or bread crumbs and stick it in the oven! And then you have more time to do other things.” Sounds delicious! We’ll definitely have to try some of these hacks and binge on them as we sob about Addison never returning to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.
