Thor, what happened to you? Chris Hemsworth revealed his shocking transformation for his new movie, ‘In The Heart Of The Sea.’ The ‘Avengers’ hunk looked like he shrunk three sizes after losing a scary amount of weight for his role. Click to see!
Chris Hemsworth, 32, sure didn’t have the body of a Norse god after showing his new move. The actor whose body helped made The Avengers amazing looked radically different after losing a ton of weight to play a starving sailor. In fact, Chris was barely recognizable!
“Just tried a new diet/training program called ‘Lost At Sea,'” Chris tweeted on Nov. 22. “Wouldn’t recommend it.” No kidding! Chris showed off his look for his movie, In The Heart Of The Sea. That included a scraggily beard, long hair and – most startling — a bone-thin frame. Gone were Chris’s Thor-muscles, leaving behind someone who looked completely different!
Before his fans start sending Chris sandwiches, his dramatic weight loss was necessary for the filming of his new epic. Chris stars as the real-life Owen Chase, who served on the whaling ship Essex, reports Entertainment Weekly. After a whale destroyed the Essex, Owen and the other sailors were stranded at sea with no food and no hope.
In order to accurately look like a castaway, Chris had his diet reduced to 500 calories per day. For an active man like Chris, the US Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion recommends anywhere from 2,400 – 3,000 calories per day. Yikes. No wonder Chris looked so skinny! Hopefully, he filmed all his Ghostbusters scenes before he started the weight loss, as Melissa McCarthy said that Chris spends the whole film shirtless!
It wasn’t like cutting that weight was fun for Chris. “When you’re already starting off lean, it’s brutal to chew through that kind of weight,” He told Entertainment Weekly, adding that “Every pound [lost] feels like a kilogram.” While we applaud Chris for his dedication to the role, we hope he’s abandoned the Stranded-At-Sea diet and has gotten himself back in his usual, godly shape.
