Macklemore and Ryan Lewis killed it at the 2015 AMAs on Nov. 22, debuting their with their dramatic new song “Kevin” live for the first time, and we’ve just gotta say WHOA about Leon Bridges’ featured appearance. Superstar in the making right here!
Macklemore, 32 and Ryan Lewis, 27, made their return to the AMA stage with an incredibly powerful performance of “Kevin” featuring up and coming soul sensation Leon Bridges, 26. The tune is a follow-up to their wildly successful hit “Downtown” but has a lot more serious tone, about a friend trying to kick prescription drug addiction.
“Put down the pen and look at my eyes, we’re in the waiting room and something ain’t right, all this on you, we’re overprescribed” Leon sang as Mack rapped on about the dangerous of prescription drug use, which puts the blame on everyone from doctors to the government for “Kevin”‘s drug addiction.
We are so down with Macklemore’s amazing song featuring with Leon! It’s great to see the soul singer getting some much deserved exposure after having a total breakout in 2015. He landed a top ten album with Coming Home, and will be performing as a musical guest in Dec. on Saturday Night Live! Leon also wrote an original song for Will Smith‘s upcoming film Concussion.
Leon’s backstory is amazing too. He went from a Fort Worth, TX dishwasher to a highly sought after artist by record companies after his song “Coming Home” first appeared on the blog Gorilla vs. Bear in Oct. 2014. Since then his voice has been compared to the legendary Sam Cooke and he’s electrified live audiences by touring nonstop.
For Mack and Ryan, the song is a follow-up to their totally amazing single “Downtown” that dropped at the end of August. Now we can’t wait for what the guys do with the video for “Kevin”, because “Downtown” and it’s 65 million views might be hard to top. The topic of “Kevin” is far more serious so it should be pretty interesting. CLICK HERE to buy Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ “Downtown”
