Um, ouch! Zayn Malik is opening up about his decision to leave One Direction– and completely slamming the band while doing so, saying theirs isn’t ‘music I would listen to.’ Read his biting remarks in their entirety!

Zayn Malik, 22, does not regret his decision to leave One Direction back in March, saying he wanted “to make music that I think is cool,” something he thinks he couldn’t do while a member of the band. If you think it sounds like Zayn is bashing his former bandmates though, well, you might be right. See what he had to say for yourself!

“There was never any room for me to experiment creatively in the band,” Zayn said in a revealing interview with Entertainment Weekly. “If I would sing a hook or a verse slightly R&B, or slightly myself, it would always be recorded 50 times until there was a straight version that was pop, generic as f–k, so they could use that version. Whenever I would suggest something, it was like it didn’t fit us. There was just a general conception that the management already had of what they want for the band, and I just wasn’t convinced with what we were selling. I wasn’t 100 percent behind the music. It wasn’t me.”

Definitely some shade being thrown, right? But it doesn’t stop there! Zayn went on to say that the music which One D makes, well, isn’t to his liking. It’s “not music that I would listen to,” Zayn said. “I want to make music that I think is cool s–t.”
