Paris Terror Raid: Woman Blows Self Up, 7 Arrested After Gun Battle With Suspects

After a six-hour gun battle at a Paris apartment where last week’s ISIS massacre mastermind was believed to be hiding out, police arrested seven suspects. During the raid, a female who fired on police blew herself up and another suspect was killed by a grenade.

Gun battles erupted at 4:15 am Paris time last night when 100 police and special forces raided an apartment where the suspected ringleader of the terrorist team which killed 129 people on Nov. 13 was believed to be hiding out.

Two people died during the operation as police stormed the apartment in the Saint-Denis neighborhood of Paris, which is close to the stadium which was attacked last week by suicide bombers. A female suspect, reportedly with long blonde hair, fired on police and then detonated a suicide bomb vest, blowing herself up. Another suspect was killed by a grenade blast. It is not known yet if one of the seven suspects arrested was Abdelhamid Abaaoud, 27, who police have identified as the architect of last week’s deadly attack.

Police also arrested seven who were suspected to be involved, and CNN reports that the group was about to carry out another terrorist attack, just five days after 129 were killed and hundreds were left injured in the city of Paris. Three of those detained were in the apartments, while four others were also taken into custody, but it is unclear as of now if Abaaoud was one of them. The siege ended by late Wednesday morning, and five police officers were left slightly wounded.

The world has been on high alert since ISIS’ attack on Paris Nov. 13, and just hours before this raid, two Air France planes flying from the U.S. to France were diverted and had emergency landings after anonymous bomb threats were called in. The planes were searched and threats determined to be “false,” but the fear is still very real.
