“Charlie was very depressed after he received the news about his HIV positive status. It wasn’t until he had a lengthy discussion with his father, Martin Sheen, that he chose to pull himself together for his kids who would be better off knowing they had a stable father in their life. It was an obviously huge wake up call,” a source told HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY.
Charlie went public with the news that he’s HIV positive on Nov. 17 on The Today Show. “I’m here to admit that I am in fact HIV-positive.” He also went on to say that he’s tired of all the rumors: “I have to put an end to these truths.” Charle also told Matt that he first learned of his disease four years ago but he still does not know how he initial contracted the disease, “it started with crushing headaches and sweating the bed 2-3 nights — I thought it was over.” He also said: “It’s a hard three letters to absorb, you know? It’s a turning point in one’s life.”
