Ronda Rousey Suffers Shocking Loss To Holly Holm At UFC 193

Unbelievable! Ronda Rousey and Holly Holm went head-to-head at UFC 193 in an intense fight for the Women’s Bantamweight Championship. In the biggest upset in UFC history, Holly took Ronda down in just two rounds!

What a fight! Ronda Rousey, 28, and Holly Holm, 34, squared off at UFC 193 in a highly anticipated MMA bout. One would go home a champion, the other with their first loss. Despite Ronda being favored to win the match, Holly came in charging and ended up victorious! Read more about the epic upset here!

Neither combatant showed fear when they entered the Octagon on Nov. 14, at the first ever UFC event at Etihad Stadium in Melbourne, Australia. Ronda had a lot on the line — not only was she defending her Women’s Bantamweight Championship, but she was 12-0 going into this match! But as soon as the match began, it was clear that Holly had one mission: Take Ronda down. After Ronda started the first round with wild swings at her opponent, Holly nailed Ronda square in the jaw. Once Ronda got Holly into a clinch, Holly wasn’t even phased and managed to not only escape it, but also make Ronda bleed in her retaliation! In an impressive beginning, Holly won the round 10-9.

But that wasn’t even the most amazing part…round two proved Holly to be Ronda’s toughest opponent yet! Clearly shaken up from her first round loss, Ronda tried to serve up some punches, but Holly wasn’t going down easy. Then, the unthinkable happened — Holly served up a head kick that knocked Ronda right out! Holly came out on top with a KO at the 59-second mark of the second round!

The last time Ronda fought was on Aug. 1, meeting Bethe Correia at UFC 190. That match only lasted 34 seconds, with Ronda landing a devastating blow against Bethe’s head, knocking the woman out. Ronda is normally a deadly submission artist, so it was impressive to see her put her striking skills on display. But Holly’s incredible showing was almost even more impressive, as she took out such a tough opponent like Ronda so easily…especially since no one saw it coming!

If there was anyone who could throw a meaner punch than Ronda, it certainly proved to be Holly. Ronda called her opponent “the best striker in MMA,” and between Holly’s multiple boxing championship wins and her epic takedown of Ronda, it looks like that may be true! Going into this match, Holly was also undefeated, with a 9-0 record and 6 wins via knockout. Maybe this fight will silence Joe Rogan‘s complaints about the amount of talent in the women’s roster of the UFC!

This fight was initially scheduled for Jan. 2, 2016, but was bumped up because the original main event – UFC Welterweight Champion Robbie Lawler facing Carlos Condit — had to be scrapped after Robbie suffered a thumb injury. This event was the first time in UFC history where both co-main events are women’s bouts, as UFC Women’s Strawweight champ Joanna Jędrzejczyk defended her belt against Valérie Létourneau. Now that Holly achieved such an amazing and historic upset, who knows…we may just be seeing more women’s fights as main events!
