Are you ready for ‘Cake by the Ocean?’ That’s right, DNCE took the stage at the 2015 HALO Awards on Nov. 14 and performed their new hit song and well, if you’re not already addicted, this performance will do it!
The pop-dance band known as DNCE (or you may know it as Joe Jonas‘ band without his bros) is taking the world by storm! Jack Lawless, Cole Whittle, and JinJoo Lee performed “Cake by the Ocean” — which totally sounds like a yummy drink, and the fans went absolutely nuts at Pier 36 in NYC!
DNCE totally rocked the 2015 HALO Awards in New York City on Saturday, Nov. 14, and HollywoodLife.com had so much fun watching their performance. Not only was lead singer Joe Jonas all over the stage with his amazing voice and killer moves, but there was also a fun balloon drop for the audience. We just LOVE watching DNCE perform and can’t wait to see them on their first tour!
Naturally, after seeing that amazing performance we had to know where that name came from: “Cake by the Ocean.” And apparently, we weren’t the only ones wondering.
“We were in the studio and working with these producers who go by Mattman (Mattias Larsson) & Robin [Fredrikson], and they were telling a story to someone, and I over heard them confuse ‘Sex on the Beach’ [the drink] with ‘Cake By The Ocean’ — which I thought was kind of perfect,” the band told iHeartRadio. “And then we just wrote the song from there. Put a bunch of stories in it, and it was done. Voila.”
As for their group name, no, it is not “DANCE” — there is no A. “There was a song that one day we were writing in the studio, and an idea for a song pretty much [came about] where you’re too drunk to spell dance, but you still get down,” the band said. “That’s where it started. It just kind of describes the imperfect awesome[ness] of the four of us together.”
I have to say, that’s totally awesome, right?! Regardless, we need to know what you guys thought about the performance — did you love it? Don’t forget to tune into the whole show will air Nov. 29 on Nickelodeon, TeenNick, Nicktoons, TV Land, CMT, Nick.com and the Nick App at 7PM ET.
