Rooney Mara’s still in! After rumors swirled that another actress would replace Rooney in ‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’ sequel, Rooney sets the record straight to confirm she’s still attached to star!
If Rooney Mara, 30, has anything to do with The Girl in the Spider’s Web, she’ll still be starring as damaged heroine Lisbeth Salander. Reports of replacements and new directions have surfaced regarding the sequel, but Rooney’s telling everyone that — as far as she knows — she will still play Lisbeth in the sequel!
“As far as I know I’m doing it until someone tells me otherwise,” Rooney told E! News. “I’m doing it unless someone tells me that I’m not—and then I still might do it.” It’s been four years since the last film, but Rooney says “of course” she wants another go at Lisbeth. YES!
It was recently announced that The Girl in the Spider’s Web was gaining ground with a new writer, according to Variety. At the time, it was noted that Rooney, co-star Daniel Craig and director David Fincher reportedly wouldn’t return because Sony wanted to reboot the entire series. Alicia Vikander was reportedly in the mix for the role of Lisbeth.
The Girl in the Spider’s Web is the fourth book in Stieg Larsson’s Millenium series. The novel was finished by David Lagercrantz after Stieg suddenly died in 2004. The plot revolves around Lisbeth and Mikael working as a team to unearth secrets about criminals in the online world.
For her role as Lisbeth in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Rooney earned her first Oscar nomination. The film won an Oscar for Best Film Editing.
