President Hollande has declared the entire country of France under a State of Emergency due to the horrific terrorist attacks in Paris. In his statement, he also announced that the borders are now closed.
President Francois Hollande, 61, gave a brief and heartfelt statement after news broke of the deadly attacks on Paris, France on Friday, Nov. 13. His statement revealed that France is now under a full State of Emergency and borders have been closed in an effort to prevent further attacks, as well as hopefully catching the people behind this massacre.
After he was reportedly evacuated from a football stadium, President Francois Hollande spoke to the public about the attacks and ongoing hostage situation that have taken the world by surprise. Before speaking, the president reportedly held a quick cabinet meeting, and then revealed that he declared the entire country under a State of Emergency, reports the New York Times.
“This is a terrible test, another assault on France. We must, in these difficult moments, prove our our compassion and unity,” Presidente Hollande bravely told the people of France as the world watched. “Faced with terrorism, France must above all be strong. Each of us has a personal responsibility. There is much to fear, but facing these fears is a nation that knows how to muster its forces and will confront the terrorists.”
During his statement, President Hollande shared that several refugees from Syria have been pouring in across the borders. With the borders closed they will no longer be allowed in, but his hope is that it will also allow the attackers to be found and prosecuted before it’s too late.
President Obama Prepared To Support France
Moments before President Hollande went live on air, the President of the United States, Barack Obama, addressed his own country to send his regards and support to the people of France. He made it very clear that those behind the “outrageous” attacks would definitely be brought to justice.
“This is a heartbreaking situation, and obviously those of us in the United States know what that’s like,” POTUS shared. “We will work with the French people and nations around the world to bring these terrorists to justice, and prevent them from going after more people.” You can watch his FULL statement HERE.
