‘Grey’s Anatomy’: Penny Confronts Meredith — Season 12 Episode 7 Recap – Hollywood Life

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Recap: Penny Confronts Meredith & Owen Throws Shade

For the past few weeks, fans have watched Penny, who allegedly killed Derek, get bullied by Meredith, but on the Nov. 12 episode of 'Grey's Anatomy,' she finally stood up for herself against her superior. Plus, Owen got extremely upset with Bailey for hiring someone he hates. We had no idea Penny (Samantha Sloyan) had so much confidence! On the Nov. 12 episode of Grey's Anatomy, Penny proved she doesn't take crap from anyone when she went head-to-head with Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) after Callie (Sara Ramirez), herself, tried standing up for her.

While it was nice to see Penny stick up for herself, during which she said, “I don’t need her to fight for me but Callie’s right … I’m here to learn. I want to learn but you have to teach me.” Penny also said she doesn’t want Meredith to go easy on her, as she oddly started doing this week, just because of their history. “Treat me like any other resident, treat me worse — I don’t care. Hate me, yell at me — I can handle it! I will handle it. You told me not to quit and I didn’t but you are right now. So, if you can’t do what you’re here to do, then please … let me go,” she said. And it certainly made an impact because during a transplant surgery, Meredith let Penny contribute. Unfortunately, Penny’s relationship with Callie suffered because of her fight with Meredith. Callie was just trying to defend her, but Penny told her to “shut up” and said she’s “embarrassing.” Woof.

Elsewhere, Owen (Kevin McKidd) got extremely upset when he found out that Bailey (Chandra Wilson) hired Nathan, who he allegedly has some sort of beef with. Unfortunately, we still don’t know what Owen’s problem with Nathan is, but it gave Meredith a reason to bring up Cristina (Sandra Oh), and for that reason, we’re totally fine with the lack of information. After Owen’s freakout on Nathan, Meredith tried to have a heart-to-heart with Cristina’s ex outside the hospital. She said she promised Cristina she wouldn’t allow him to get all “dark and twist,” but Owen refused to talk about the situation. However, when Meredith asked if they’re supposed to hate Nathan, he said yes. So Meredith said, “OK. We hate him.” And that was that.

The other characters also had their own personal problems to deal with this week. Bailey prompted Ben to kick Avery (Jesse Williams) out of their house, as he has overstayed his welcome since moving out of the place he shared with April (Sarah Drew). And that may have been exactly what Jackson and April needed to help their relationship, as they went on a romantic dinner date together — and then had sex! But their regretful faces at the end of the episode have us worried. Meanwhile, Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) dipped her toes back in the dating pool with the help of Richard (James Pickens, Jr.), who acted as her wingman at a lesbian bar.

What do YOU think, HollywoodLifers? Should Penny stay or go? Could Owen be overreacting? Did Jackson and April look like they regretted having sex? Sound off in the comments below!
