I would say ‘Backstreet’s Back’ but we all know they’ve never really gone away. In a new podcast interview with AJ McLean, who is promoting his inspiring new single, we obviously had to know about the group’s next album, tour, and ‘sexy’ new sound.
We told you that AJ McLean recently revealed in an interview that the Backstreet Boys were in talks to head on tour with The Spice Girls — but was he serious? Yes of course, we asked him in this week’s HollywoodLife podcast! Listen to it here.
To hear AJ’s full interview, listen to our podcast here, starting at :39. Here’s some highlights you know you need to know — starting with new music coming from BSB.
“I think this album we’re trying to go a little sexy, actually,” AJ said in the podcast. “We’re actually trying to be the men that we are today and not necessarily singing ‘Quit Playin’ Games,’ but talkin’ about sex, talking about fun stuff! We’re all in our mid 30s to 40s, and it’s like, that’s almost the next phase that we’ve never really done. We’ve tapped into a sex appeal here and there, but we’ve never really like, wrote songs about it or songs that are just sexy. We really emulate and look into Maroon Five. Like ‘Sugar,’ that’s a sexy song.”
Alright let’s be honest — we’ve always thought BSB’s music was sexy, but since they are adults, as are their fans, it makes sense. While AJ admitted it may not be until January until we hear anything new, it’s going to be really good — just like his new song, “Live Together.” AJ also said the band will be going on tour again, as well as a BSB Crusie. But will The Spice Girls join? After telling Rolling Stone there were talks of a joint tour, it’s been all the rave.
“It’s funny, Howie actually reached out to Mel B. I think Nick did as well. We’ve been in talks; Sadly, it’s more so about scheduling than anything else,” he told us. “I do believe that they want to do it. We definitely want to do it, but I think scheduling wise — The Spice Girls want to do their own tour first. We’re about to do another album, [and] another tour. So if it ever did happen, it would probably be a few more years from now, down the road, once both groups are done doing their own thing… then we might come together. I think that if we ever did do something with the girls, it would probably be kind of what Jay Z & Justin [Timberlake] did — 15, 16 dates, stadiums only and kinda just knock it out of the park though!”
Alright, who else is freaking out? Let us know. You can listen to the full iTunes for free here, and don’t forget to get AJ’s new single, “Live Together!”
