Hmm, what’s this about? Erykah Badu dropped a brand new song called ‘Phone Down,’ and dedicated it to someone named Aubrey. Um, as in Aubrey Graham… aka Drake? Click inside to LISTEN!
Erykah Badu, 44, might just be sending a message to her friend, Drake, 29, via a new song off of her upcoming EP. “Phone Down” was uploaded to her official SoundCloud account, and in the description was a cryptic dedication to Aubrey. Could this be a response to his hit track, “Hotline Bling”?
Okay, what’s going on with Erykah Badu and Drake? Just one month after the soulful singer dropped a remix of Drake’s “Hotline Bling,” she released a follow up track called “Phone Down” and dedicated it to Aubrey.
“This ones [sic] for Aubrey…,” Erykah wrote in the caption of the song’s official leak. The track will be featured on her upcoming mixtape/EP YOU CAINT USE MY PHONE, which will be released Thanksgiving weekend, according to the SoundCloud. The lyrics are pretty simple, but the song appears to be a clear response to “Hotline Bling,” which is all about getting late night booty calls from a special someone.
“I can make you put your phone down,” Erykah sings repeatedly. “You won’t text no one when you’re with me,” she continues.
However, it is worth noting that Erykah credits the song’s concept to songwriter Aubrey Davis. That’s one way to keep us guessing, Erykah!
