The cause behind Caleb Logan’s tragic and unexpected death has finally been confirmed. The 13-year-old YouTube star of his family’s channel, Bratayley, suffered from hypertonic cardiomyopathy, a heart condition that ultimately ended his young life.
The final question surrounding YouTube star Caleb Logan’s death has been answered: what actually killed the 13-year old? After his tragic and shocking passing on Oct. 1, fans have wondered what could have snuffed out the light of Caleb’s young life? Now, his mother, Katie, has confirmed the devastating cause of his death.
Katie stated that Caleb passed away on Oct. 1 from a heart condition called “Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy.” In a Nov. 10 Instagram post, Katie said the condition “went undetected in his yearly checkups. Caleb didn’t have any symptoms so the doctor said there was nothing we could have done differently.” Oh no. The fact that there was nothing his family could have done to prevent his death makes it even more gut-wrenching.
“Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy” is what the Mayo Clinic describes as when the heart muscle (myocardium) becomes abnormally thick and thus, harder to pump blood. Sadly, this diagnosis comes as no surprise as Caleb’s family had a history of heart problems. Plus, with no sign of foul play or drug use, some kind of “undiagnosed medical condition” was the likely suspect behind Caleb’s death.
With the actual cause behind Caleb’s passing confirmed, his parents made sure the same fate wouldn’t befall his sisters. Thankfully, both Annie and Hayley had their hearts checked out, and according to their mother, their hearts “look the way they should right now.”
Days after his passing, Caleb’s memorial service was held on Oct. 6, and it was streamed online so all his fans could watch and mourn. To this day, the loss of this young life is still felt by his fans and family. Caleb’s mother ended her emotional message expressing her emotional devastation over her son’s death.
“The sadness of losing someone you love is unimaginable,” she said. “Thank you to everyone who has reached out, your kindness and support continues to help our family. We miss our baked potato everyday. #calebratelife #celebratelife”
