Oh no you didn’t Jason Aldean! The country superstar is copping to dressing up in blackface for Halloween, in which he went as rap star Lil Wayne. He should have known that something that insensitive – even if it was just for a costume – would surely create controversy!
Jason Aldean, 38, is coming under fire for his very curious and controversial choice of a Halloween costume. The “Gonna Know We Were Here” singer was photographed in blackface makeup for his Lil Wayne impression. Complete with fake dreads, a red bandana, shades and a giant dollar sign necklace, it’s Jason’s choice of skin darkening that is raising eyebrows.
The country star’s rep confirmed to TMZ that Jason dressed up as Lil Wayne for his costume, as he partied with a group of friends. “So far, Jason’s offered no apology — and his rep made no specific mention about Jason darkening his face with makeup,” the site reports. It was unclear where he was at the time, but it was taken around Halloween. The controversial photo first surfaced on Nashville Gab‘s website, where even the reporter who broke the story on Nov. 5 couldn’t initially believe that the person in blackface was actually Jason.
In the photo, Jason was surrounded by a group of pals who were dressed in far less controversial outfits. One pal was a hunter, a lady friend was a sexy cat, and it appears Jason’s wife Brittney Kerr went along with her husband’s costume choice, trying to look gangsta in braided hair, a red bandana and a black and red plaid shirt. But at least she had to good sense not to go in blackface, even though in the photo it looks like she’s trying to throw some sort of gang sign with her hands.
