Alanis Morissette Updates Classic ‘Ironic’ For 2015 & It’s Perfect — Listen

Okay, this is officially the BEST thing ever! Alanis Morissette gave her 1996 hit ‘Ironic’ a modern-day twist with some help from James Corden and it’s full of all the #FirstWorldProblems we face on a regular basis. You’ve gotta listen to this one!

’90s kids are going to love this one! Alanis Morissette is still celebrating the 20-year anniversary of her hit album Jagged Little Pill, and she gave fans a special treat by updating the lyrics to one of the record’s biggest hits during a segment on The Late Late Show With James Corden Nov. 9. Watch her perform the 2015 version of “Ironic” here!

The singer performed the new rendition as a duet with host James Corden and it was beyond hilarious. The lyrics included some major First World Problems, involving some of the biggest phenomenons of this tech-savvy age, like Snapchat, Facebook, Tinder, Uber, Amazon, Netflix and more.

And, of course, James had to add his own twist to the performance by taking on some of Alanis’ infamous mumbling at the end of the track. The 41-year-old even got a little annoyed at the late show host (jokingly, of course!) and had to shut him up after he just wouldn’t stop!

Alanis released Jagged Little Pill, her third studio album, on June 13, 1995. At the 1996 Grammy Awards, she won BestFemale Rock Vocal Performance and Best Rock Song for the hit “You Oughta Know,” Best Rock Album and Album of the Year (NO BIG DEAL)! “Ironic” was nominated for Record of the Year and Best Music Video, Short Form at the 1997 show.

An old friend sends you a Facebook request
And you only find out they’re racist after you accept
There’s free office cake on the first day of your diet
It’s like they announce a new iPhone the day after you buy it
Isn’t it ironic? Don’t you think?
It’s like swiping left on your future soulmate
It’s a Snapchat that you wish you had saved
It’s a funny tweet that nobody faves
And who would’ve thought? It figures…
It’s a traffic jam, when you tried to use Waze
A no smoking sign, when you brought your vape
It’s ten thousand male late night hosts, when all you want is just one woman, seriously!
Isn’t it ironic, don’t you think?
It’s like you’re first class on a Southwest plane
Then you realize that every seat is the same
It’s like Amazon, but your package never came
And who would’ve thought? It figures…
It’s like Netflix, but you own DVDs
It’s a free ride, but your Uber’s down the street
It’s singing “Ironic,” but there are no ironies
Who would’ve thought? It figures…
