Tamar Braxton was rushed to the hospital during the dress rehearsal for ‘DWTS’ on Nov. 9 — so she did make it back in time for the live show or was she disqualified?
We can always count on Dancing with the Stars to bring the drama and an unexpected twist. On Nov. 9, Tamar Braxton missed her individual dance with partner Val Chmerkovskiy, but returned in time for the group dance! Read a full recap and see which couple got eliminated below.
Alek Skarlatos and Lindsay Arnold kicked off the night with a sexy Samba. To prepare, Alek waxed his chest! Judge Julianne Hough said the wax paid off — “you look great!” Bruno Tonioli said: “It was like you’re a playboy in Miami Vice! It’s good to see you getting into the role. Hip action…you have to work on the hips.” Carrie Ann Inaba said his flow, the music and the dance didn’t all come together. They got a 24 out of 30!
Alexa PenaVega revealed to us and partner Mark Ballas that she had bulimia for 6 years after a director told her she was “too fat” as a child. Their contemporary dance focused on her fighting the evil, which kept pulling her back in. The beautiful piece got a standing ovation from the judges. “You really danced like a woman possessed. It had the emotional turmoil of American Horror Story. You danced like I’ve never seen you dance. Brilliant,” Bruno said. “That was more than dance, that was healing,” Carrie Ann said. “Where vulnerability comes in, strength is born. It’s much bigger than you,” Julianne said. They got a perfect score of 30!
Carlos PenaVega and Witney Carson danced an Argentine Tango to Justin Bieber‘s “What Do You Mean?” Carrie Ann said: “I’m struggling. It was good, it was clean, it was nice…but I don’t know, it didn’t touch me. It lacked impact.” Julianne added: “Argentine Tango is all about passion …and it didn’t have that.” Bruno disagreed: “I didn’t mind it at all. I thought it was actually very well done.” They still got a 27!
Bindi Irwin and Derek Hough danced a Viennese Waltz, speaking in the package again about how they feel immense pressure to be perfect. It was breathtaking, got a standing ovation from the judges, and tears from me! “Every week you’re so flawless. Tonight, it was so different. There was a maturity…You take risks. You don’t play it safe, ever. It was gorgeous,” Julianne said. “My little diamond, you’ve got it baby. This dance spoke for itself. It allowed you to connect emotionally. It was a thing of pure beauty,” Bruno said. “When I watch you dance, it’s filled with hope…it’s art every time,” Carrie Ann said. They got a perfect score of 30!
Next, Tamar Braxton and Valentin Chmerkovskiy were supposed to dance Contemporary, but Tamar was taken to the emergency room during dress rehearsal for pneumonia. During the package, their rehearsals were all over the place — literally in Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Orlando in just one week. Since the show is live, and Tamar didn’t return in time, the judges watched a tape from dress rehearsal. They had to score that dance. “This is very, very difficult. We have to judge watch we saw. It could have been amazing,” Bruno said. “You could see that was a dress rehearsal,” Carrie Ann said. “Live, she would have brought it,” Julianne said. Val really wanted to interject, saying it didn’t matter what the judges had to say, but was cut off by host Tom Bergeron. They got a 22.
Finally, Nick Carter and Sharna Burgess danced the Quickstep. “You didn’t lose any mojo from last week. You are in your zone. You are killing it…but you were out of sync a little,” Carrie Ann said. “That was straight off of Broadway!” Julianne said. “A dancing match made in movie heaven!” Bruno said. The Backstreet Boys cheered on Nick from the audience! They got a 28!
The Show Stoppers Round — Side By Side Dances
Carlos and Witney danced with Alek and Lindsay to Queen‘s “We Will Rock You.” “Wow, that lift was amazing. I felt like there was such an opportunity when you guys danced together but I felt like it was a little bit stale,” Julianne said. “The overall effect was great,” Bruno said. “That’s a big song and I don’t think you filled the shoes of that song. And you were a bit out of sync,” Carrie Ann said. They each got an additional 24 points.
Bindi and Derek and Alexa and Mark danced a phenomenal routine to “Chicago.” Bruno screamed: “Style, feel, right on the money. Wonderful!” “That was re-invention at it’s finest. Teamwork, yay!” Carrie Ann said. Julianne said she wished she was in that number! They got a perfect score of 30, and both couples got perfect scores for the night!
Then, Tamar arrived in the building! If she missed this dance, she would have been disqualified. Instead, she powered through!
Tamar and Val were able to dance with Nick and Sharna to “Hey Jude” by The Beatles. “I have nothing but respect for you. That was a fantastic performance. You didn’t let Nick down,” Carrie Ann said. “You guys supported Tamar through that whole thing. Nick, you stepped up as a leading man,” Julianne said. “It was like a psychedelic dream,” Bruno said. They got a 27! Tamar looked like she was about to pass out, but then joined the other couples on the stage for the results. I actually think Tamar should go home because she needs to prioritize her health and she did not look good last night.
In the end, we had to say goodbye to Alexa and Mark, who were eliminated. Alexa’s husband Carlos was in tears, saying it should have been him!
Did the right couple go home this week? Tell me in the comments!
