Michael Clifford, what are we going to do with you? The accident-prone 5 Seconds of Summer guitarist took a nasty tumble yet again, this time straight off the stage at the Radio 1 Teen Awards. Poor thing!
Michael Clifford, 19, fell off the stage while performing with 5 Seconds of Summer on November 8, at the Radio 1 Teen Awards in London. The guitarist attempted to jump with his instrument in hand, misjudged and fell right into the pit in front of the stage, injuring himself. Click through to watch the terrifying incident!
The clip of Michael falling is brief, but horrifying. Standing house left, Michael tries to run upstage, jumps, and misses, and seemingly disappears. It’s like he was eaten by the audience! While Michael was injured — he tweeted about needing crutches! — it wasn’t extensive damage; he was immediately able to get up and finish the show.
Michael has a great sense of humor, and joked about the accident in an interview with Radio 1 after the show, when asked what happened up onstage. “I was looking at Rita Ora and I was like… hey and I fell,” Michael said. Rita’s gorgeous; we totally get it if he was completely flustered!
Michael posted a series of tweets about his accident after the show, expressing his frustration and assuring fans he was alright. “WHY DO I ALWAYS HURT MYSELF,” he first tweeted. “all good geezers. On crutches for the next few days. don’t look at me funny pls lolz. Thanks radio 1 for having us! Wembley arena doesn’t like me much.” Omg, poor Michael!
Needing crutches is serious, and definitely not fun! Hopefully his bandmates will help him out. Of course, this isn’t Michael’s first scary accident onstage. In June 2015, he was badly burned by pyrotechnics that went out of control. Someone needs to pad him with foam before his next show!
