Whoa —We did not see this coming! Donald Trump was in the middle of his opening monologue on ‘Saturday Night Live’ when someone started chanting ‘Trump’s a racist’ from the audience! The protestor at hand? Larry David!
Did we just hear what we think we heard? Donald Trump, 69, was in the middle of his opening monologue on Saturday Night Live on Nov. 7 when he was unexpectedly interrupted by a protestor! The disgruntled audience member was heard yelling “Trump’s a racist” off camera, only it wasn’t your average protestor — it was comedian Larry David, 68! What just happened?!
Okay, so it turns out the whole thing was part of the scripted monologue — not that that made it any less shocking. Trump had just finished poking fun at himself alongside SNL‘s resident Donald Trump impersonators Darrell Hammond, 60, and Taran Killiam, 33, when Larry interrupted him by yelling, “Trump’s a racist!” “What are you doing, Larry?” Trump asked after being harassed by the comedian. “I heard if I yelled that I would get 5,000 dollars,” he replied, in reference to the protests going on outside the SNL studios that night.
For those who don’t know, Trump’s appearance wasn’t exactly met with a whole lot of enthusiasm — at least not by all. Prior to taking to the stage, hundreds of demonstrators marched from Fifth Avenue to the NBC studios at Rockefeller Center to protest the Republican candidate’s views on immigration,” the New York Post reports. Armed with “Dump Trump” banners, the group reportedly called for Trump to be dropped from the show that night for what one spokesman termed, his “racist demagoguery.” Leading up to the broadcast, NBC had not responded to the outcry, and the show went on as scheduled. As a result, the Latino group Deport Racism reportedly offered $5,000 to any audience members who heckled Trump, which is exactly what Larry did. Lucky for him, after the segment aired, the group tweeted that it would indeed give the $5,000 reward to David.
Still, while the Donald may not have addressed the protests himself, that doesn’t mean that his appearance was tame by any means. Being as outspoken as he is, Trump used his opening monologue to diss his longtime rival Rosie O’Donnell, 53, for what now seems like the millionth time. “People thing I’m controversial, but the truth is, I’m a nice guy,” he said. “I don’t hold grudges against anybody, like Rosie O’Donnell. She said some things about me that were hurtful and untrue. I said some things about her that were mean, but completely accurate.” Ouch!
To prove his point, Trump then claimed that Rosie was actually on hand to support him that night, only it wasn’t Rosie, but rather SNL cast member Aidy Bryant, 28, whom then came out on stage to correct him. “Isn’t she great?” he added, still clearly referring to Aidy as Rosie. “She’s like a totally different person now.” We wouldn’t get your hopes up Trump. The real Rosie isn’t likely to take too kindly to this one.
