Well, it happened. Donald Trump returned to Saturday Night Live on Nov. 7 and as expected it was anything but boring. The ex ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ host kicked things off by poking fun at his arch nemesis Rosie O’Donnell and more surprisingly, himself! You’ll have to see it to believe it!
We knew Donald Trump’s Saturday Night Live hosting gig was going to be something, but wow. The GOP presidential candidate didn’t hold anything back when he hit the stage on Nov. 7, kicking off his opening monologue by poking fun at his longtime enemy, Rosie O’Donnell. As Trump himself would say, it was ‘HUGE.’
As always, Trump didn’t waste any time getting down to business. In his opening monologue, Trump kicked things off by addressing some of the misconceptions some people have of him, including that he’s a mean guy. “People thing I’m controversial, but the truth is, I’m a nice guy,” he said. “I don’t hold grudges against anybody, like Rosie O’Donnell. She said some things about me that were hurtful and untrue. I said some things about her that were mean, but completely accurate.” Ouch! To prove his point, Trump then claimed that Rosie was actually on hand to support him that night, only it wasn’t Rosie, but rather SNL cast member Aidy Bryant, whom then came out on stage to correct him. “Isn’t she great?” he added. “She’s like a totally different person now.”
Of course, we all know that Trump likes to make fun of others, but what we weren’t expecting was for the GOP candidate to make fun of himself! “I know how to take a joke,” he said. “SNL has done so much to ridicule me over the years, this show has been a disaster for me.” He then proceeded to bring out SNL’s own Trump impersonators Darrell Hammond and Taran Killiam, both of whom were dressed to look just like the ex Celebrity Apprentice host. “I think this show just got better by like two billion percent,” Taran joked while giving his best Trump impression. “In fact, they just told me, now that I’m hear this is the best monologue in SNL history, can you believe that?” Uhh, whatever you say, guys.
Still, the most memorable moment of Trump’s opening monologue had to have been the unexpected moment a protestor screamed “Trump’s a racist” from the audience! Only this wasn’t your average protestor, but rather SNL vet Larry David! The comedian made an appearance earlier during the show’s cold open, reprising his role as Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders. “What are you doing, Larry?” Trump asked after being harassed by Larry. “I heard if I yelled that I would get 5,000 dollars,” he replied, no doubt hinting at the Trump protests going on outside the SNL studios that night. And to think this all just happened in the first three minutes!
