The bizarre and somewhat scary apparition over Southern California on November 7 had many believing this was finally a visit from extraterrestrials. We have an explanation for the bright light that zoomed from San Diego to Los Angeles. Read on to find out what happened!
Did residents of San Diego, Orange County and Los Angeles, all see a UFO flying up the coastline? The unidentified flying object was so large and bright, that some could reportedly see it all the way in neighboring Arizona and Nevada! Was this finally a close encounter with aliens, or something else?
You may want to believe, but there’s no cause to call Mulder and Scully this time. Yes, that streak of light can, by definition be called a UFO, but there was nothing extraterrestrial about it. The United States Navy explained to the San Diego Union-Tribune that the phenomenon was the test flight of a (deactivated) missile, launched from a submarine off San Diego.
Or at least that’s what the government wants us to think. We’re joking, we’re joking. We’ve seen way too many X-Files episodes in preparation for the reboot! The mystery light began as a small blip in the sky, then burst into a full-fledged ball of blue streak, which to the credit of all concerned citizens, did look like some kind of aircraft traveling rapidly.
They were somewhat right. A Navy spokesman told the Union-Tribune that Navy Strategic Systems Programs conducted a scheduled test of the Trident II (D5) missile at sea from the Kentucky ballistic-class military submarine. The missile was not armed. But since the Navy didn’t announce the test flight (it’s policy not to do so), people were beyond frightened and puzzled by what they saw. News sources and law enforcement agencies in San Diego were apparently overloaded with calls from people reporting flares, bombs, and comets over the coast. We can’t imagine how scary it must have been! Even scarier, a day after the L.A UFO, saucer-shaped clouds were seen in South Africa!
It may be happening again later this week; the U.S. Military has rerouted all redeye flights out of LAX that were intended to fly over the Pacific Ocean, the area that also counts as the test zone. While it’s not clear if this has anything to do with the missile test, it seems like people should prepare themselves for seeing another bizarre UFO. If you do see little green men hanging out around LA, you should let us know, though!
HollywoodLifers, did you think the missile was a UFO? Tell us in the comments!
