Sally Field gave a very classy response when asked about former boyfriend Burt Reynolds telling a magazine that she was the ‘love of his life,’ and he regrets losing her over 33 years ago. See what the star had to say!
Burt Reynolds, 79, recently revealed that his former girlfriend Sally Field, 69, was the “love of his life,” and that he completely regrets their bitter breakup in the early 1980’s. The two were together for five years after falling in love while filming the classic Smokey And The Bandit films. They were essentially the Brangelina of the late 1970’s, and now after all these years, he admits he still misses her terribly. Sally just found out about the news via the media, and gave a shocked yet classy response.
“I didn’t hear that yet,” a surprised Sally told People magazine when she heard about Burt’s declaration of love. “I have no response, really, and any response I would have would belong to him” Way to keep it private Sally!
Burt opened up about her in an upcoming Vanity Fair article where he admitted “I miss her terribly.” He adds, “Even now, it’s hard on me. I don’t know why I was so stupid. Men are like that, you know. You find the perfect person, and then you do everything you can to screw it up.”
Burt was THE movie star of the 1970’s, with starring roles in such classics as Deliverance, The Longest Yard, Semi-Tough and Cannonball Run. But it was his collaborations with then-girlfriend Sally that made them both huge box office stars. They starred together in 1977’s Smokey And The Bandit and it’s 1980 sequel Smokey And The Bandit II. But their five-year love affair ended 33 years ago on terms so bad they didn’t speak for over two decades!
Burt doesn’t have a good track record with breakups. When he broke up with Sally in the early ’80s, it was a pretty contentious split. He went on to marry actress Loni Anderson, but their turbulent five-year-union ended in 1993 in one of Hollywood’s nastiest divorce cases!
