The ‘Project Runway’ finale is here — four designers made it to New York Fashion Week, but only one can take home the prize. Who will it be?! Read on for our ‘Project Runway’ finale recap — but beware: SPOILERS ahead!
Tim Gunn comes in to rehash the feedback from the judges, making sure the final four understand what they have to do with just two days left. Tim goes shopping at Mood for Ashley and Kelly while the designers head to the workroom to work on the changes they need to make. It is truly a “make it work” moment. Read on to find out how the finale episode played out — and who took home the prize on Season 14 of Project Runway.
The critique seemed to really be what Candice needed, as she quickly scraps items and makes her collection more cohesive. She is totally in the zone! Tim comes to visit the designers and calls out Edmond for his indecisiveness — not gonna lie, he is making me nervous. Tim tells him he needs to own the looks — and I think he’s going to embrace the ruffles.
After two intense days of working on their collection, fitting the models and deciding on the hair and makeup looks, it is finally show time. The designers arrive in style, thanks to Lexus — it is a true “pinch me” moment.
Backstage it is beyond chaotic — and while Ashley is definitely one to beat with her plus-size collection, she has a major disaster right before she sends her models down the runway when the zipper on one of her looks splits open. Oh no!
Carrie Underwood is the guest judge. Kellie’s collection is first. She loves seeing her collection, (which looks like “disco barbies” come down the runway). “Anna’s Roses” is the name of Edmond’s collection, it’s all about love and inspired by his mom. I am loving the white ruffled frock — so happy he decided to stay true to his finale collection. Up next is Candice! She dedicates it to her children — aww. Ashley’s full-figured line is last.
Now it’s the moment of truth — the judges offer up their final feedback. Edmond’s collection has a lot of hits and a lot of misses.
“A little flashy, a little trashy,” Zac Posen said of Kelly’s collection. Nina Garcia was impressed and surprised, which is amazing because she wasn’t the biggest fan of Kelly throughout the season.
“You did something outstanding today,” Zac said, calling the collection “spectacular” and gave Ashley a rave review. You played with forms that are considered taboo for plus-size women, Nina said of Ashley’s.
“I was very surprised, in a good way,” Nina said to Candice — but in the end, the judges weren’t impressed with what she came up with.
Kelly won more challenges than anyone else and the judges love her attitude — even Nina loves the glitter, calling it “authentic” and “free.”
In the end, Candice is eliminated first, followed by Edmond — that leaves Kelly and Ashley. The fact that the final two stayed so true to their vision seems to be what really stood out to the judges — and Ashley’s plus-size line is awarded the “winner” title.
It was definitely amazing to see a plus-size line show at New York Fashion Week, and it was cool to see Ashley incorporate a slew of silhouettes.
With so many talented designers, it was definitely a tough competition! Do you agree with the final decision?
