Aw, how cool! Amy Poehler helped pal Carrie Brownstein marry a lesbian couple at a recent book signing, and the video is amazing. Click inside to WATCH!
Amy Poehler, 44, and Carrie Brownstein, 41, made one engaged couple’s dreams come true when they revealed they still needed an ordained minister to marry them. When Kendall Oshiro and Genevieve Hernandez asked Carrie to do the honors, an impromptu wedding took place at what was just another book signing in Pasadena, California.
Portlandia star Carrie was promoting her new memoir “Hunger Makes Me a Modern Girl” with Amy in tow when they took on a completely new task: wedding planners! It was fan Kendall Oshiro who originally asked Carrie to officiate her and her girlfriend’s wedding, and with a little encouragement from both the audience and Amy, a ceremony took place in front of an audience of 500 people!
The couple revealed to ABC News that they had been planning to elope in a few months, but once they announced they had their marriage certificate with them it was a done deal for Carrie, who is an ordained minister. “Amy looked at Carrie and was like, ‘You have to do it, you have to do it, you have to do it.’”
As you can see in the video above, while Carrie prepared to marry the two elated women, Amy took over organist duties by playing the piano. Unfortunately, the only song she knew how to play was “Greensleeves,” which kept the audience laughing as they waited to watch a surprise wedding ceremony go down.
Even though Kendall describes the evening as “crazy,” she also said, “I was marrying my best friend so in the end it didn’t matter to me.” So sweet! Congrats, ladies!
