The best mic drop of the year goes to Jonny Gomes, the left fielder for the Kansas City Royals. The MLB player gave a rousing speech to KC fans that brutally rubbed their World Series win into the NY Mets faces. Sorry guys, maybe next year!
Jonny Gomes, 34, is sorry, not sorry, that the New York Mets lost the World Series to his team, the Kansas City Royals. He gave a speech at Union Station in Kansas City on November 3 that let the Mets know that while they had some of the most amazing talent in Major League Baseball, they were nothing compared to the Royals! Click through to watch his epic speech!
““It’s unbelievable what those boys did,” Jonny said. It’s unbelievable what they did! It’s unbelievable what they did! They stole bases, they hit homers. Hey guess what? Cy Young winner? Not on our team. Beat him! Rookie of the year? Not on our team. We beat him! MVP of the whole league? Sorry guys, not on our team. But we beat that guy too!”
“Do you know why we beat them? Because all y’all people had our backs. And Dayton Moore put this team together, and Yost delivered it by being the captain of the ship. You all want to be politically correct, I’m an un-politically correct person. We whooped their ass!”
The crowd went wild with cheering and applause as Jonny literally dropped the mic, and marched offstage with his teammates, carrying an American flag high in the air. That’s how you make a departure, people! The chants of “Royals! Royals! Royals!” after his speech were incredible.
Jonny definitely stole the show, but he started his time at the mic by standing in front of the flag and dedicating a moment of silence to honor the memory of teammates Mike Moustakas’ mother, Chris Young’s father and Ednison Volquez’s father, who all passed away in the past four months. We love that gesture, and his passionate speech. Even if you’re a Mets fan, you have to admit it was pretty epic. Even if it stung just a little bit!
HollywoodLifers, are you glad the Royals won the World Series? Tell us in the comments!
