‘Van Helsing’: TV Series About Vampire Hunter’s Daughter Heads To SyFy – Hollywood Life

‘Van Helsing’ Series Heading To SyFy Based Around His Daughter

Girls really do run the world -- even on SyFy! The network has acquired a 13-episode 'Van Helsing' series all about the vampire hunter's daughter, Vanessa Helsing. Move over, Hugh Jackman! Van Helsing became insanely popular in 2004 when it was released with an all-star cast including Hugh, Kate Beckinsale and Richard Roxburgh. But we have just learned that the movie will be changed into a series, based on the resurrection of Vanessa Helsing, the next in line of warriors to help save the world controlled by vampires.

SyFy’s series will be picked up from Nomadic Pictures, who revealed that the store will take place five years later when Vanessa is resurrected and she learns vampires have taken over the world. Of course, she has the power that no one else has to try and overcome them. Production for the series will begin in January 2016 in Vancouver.

“Van Helsing represents a new mythology in sci-fi by challenging traditional vampire rules,” Chad Oakes, co-chairman of Nomadic Pictures, said. “The series is unique in exploring a world completely dominated by vampires, while the human characters have to learn the importance of working together to ensure their survival. Mike and I are thrilled to team up once again with the talented Neil LaBute to deliver an amazing series.”

Neil also released a statement about how excited he is to work on a “unique, character-driven action series that will move the traditional vampire tropes into bold and unexpected new territories.”

In a world of reboots, movies-to-series, and remakes, we’re not surprised the movie has taken to TV. However, who will play the leading lady? That of course, is still up for grabs. Expect to see the show hit SyFy in Fall 2015. Are you excited?
