Congrats to the Kansas City Royals! The team just solidified itself as MLB’s newest champions after taking down the New York Mets in Game 5 of the World Series on Nov. 1. Find out all the details here!
On Nov. 1, the Kansas City Royals won the 2015 World Series in a monumental game that will likely go down in history as one of the most exciting in MLB history. The Royals won Game 5 with a score of 7-2 over the New York Mets, making this their second championship and first since 1985. They didn’t win without a little drama, though — get the scoop on their unbelievable come-from-behind victory below!
Despite a heartbreaking loss in Game 4 and being down 3-1 in the series, the Mets clearly weren’t ready to be done after Game 5. They held the Royals to zero runs all the way until the 9th inning, in which they were leading 2-0. But after going eight full innings without scoring, the Royals fired up their bats in the top of the 9th. They ended up tying the game 2-2, and suddenly the Mets’ win didn’t seem so easy. That brought the game into extra innings, and in the top of the 12th, the Royals declared that they wanted the World Series title. In an incredible comeback, the Royals had four hits in the 12th that scored five runs and pulled them ahead 7-2. The Mets gave it one last shot in the bottom of the 12th, but it wasn’t enough to outlast the insane scoring the Royals had just done. Needless to say, it was quite the epic way for the Royals to claim their title as World Series champions!
As HollywoodLife.com previously reported, this has been one of the most exciting World Series in recent memory! The 2015 series kicked off with a bang, as there was an inside-the-park home run — the first time in a World Series since 1929 — a power outage, and a total of 14 innings, making it the longest Game 1 in World Series history! The Royals won that game and went on to dominate Game 2 as well. When the series moved to CitiField for Game 3, the Mets declared they weren’t backing down just yet and won 9-3. But even being away from their own stadium, the Royals managed to keep their cool for Games 4 and 5 and eventually came out on top.
This World Series was extremely important to the Royals, as they made it to the finals in 2014 but were defeated by the San Francisco Giants. Playing amazing baseball throughout the entire 2015 season, the Missouri team was pretty much unstoppable once they made it to the playoffs. They certainly proved they wanted the victory, and now they get to celebrate as the 2015 World Series Champions! Congratulations to the Kansas City Royals!
