An emotional episode of ‘DWTS’ proved a heartfelt routine almost always wins over the judges — Nick & Sharna won immunity after their personal routine about Nick’s pregnant wife earned them a perfect score!
Dancing with the Stars continues to get more and more intense every week. On Nov. 2, each pair had to learn 4 dances, to prepare for their individual routines and a dance-off. In an emotional twist, we learned Nick Carter and his wife are expecting a baby boy! Read the full recap of the episode below.

This week it was all about inspiration. Carlos PenaVega and Witney Carson danced Salsa to give tribute to Marc Anthony. Even though Carlos is Latino, he’s never danced Salsa. Say what? They danced to a Marc song, and Carlos lost his shirt in the middle of the routine. Judge Julianne Hough said he looked like he knew what he was doing and she liked his improvisation. Bruno Tonioli said: “Magic Carlos is back! You were tossing Witney into positions you cannot even find in the Kama Sutra! I liked it a lot!” Carrie Ann Inaba said he seemed tight in the beginning but then turned it up a notch! “It was really enjoyable to watch!” They got a 27 out of 30.
Alek Skarlatos and Lindsay Arnold spoke in their package about how Alek is having trouble embracing the term “hero.” He honored Chris Kyle, who inspired the movie American Sniper. They danced a sweet and slow contemporary. “You looked like a tower of strength but also, it was very moving. But you missed the lift…overall, it was beautiful,” Bruno said. “I think you rose to the occasion [tonight]…I thought it was a bit on the simple side, but you did excellent,” Carrie Ann said. Julianne said the lifts were “phenomenal.” They got a 25 out of 30.
Allison Holker and Andy Grammer danced the Viennese Waltz to honor Stevie Wonder. It was inspired by Andy’s late mom. It was full of heart and so sweet! (Plus, we’re starting to see Allison’s baby bump!) “Aren’t you lovely? I felt so much emotion. I could feel her spirit watching over you while you danced. However…your dancing suffered a lot. Go back to basics,” Carrie Ann said. Julianne said it wasn’t his best week. “All the intentions were right. Your heart was in the right place…the execution of the Viennese Waltz is very exact…technically, it was slightly challenged. You need to sort out the ballroom technique,” Bruno said. They got a 22 out of 30.
Alexa PenaVega and Mark Ballas danced an intense Argentine Tango as David and Goliath. Unfortunately, even I notice a few problems. “There was such an intensity, and then there were these two little slip ups,” Julianne said. “You made a couple of foot faults that really stood out,” Bruno said. “I thought it was epic!” Carrie Ann said. They got a 25!
Next, Nick and Sharna Burgess danced Contemporary to honor Nick’s wife. And guess what? She’s 16 weeks pregnant!
They have been trying for a year and had suffered a miscarriage, so this is really exciting!
“Not a dull moment, extraordinary,” Bruno said. “You took my breath away. Tonight, that was the best dance ever,” Carrie Ann said through tears. “What you guys did tonight, you showed you’re a dancer. You can adapt to each style. You are truly a dancer,” Julianne said. They got a perfect score of 30!
Bindi Irwin and Derek Hough spoke about how hard Bindi is working, and how her body is taking some abuse! Since she is doing so well, Bindi is feeling the pressure to live up to high expectations. They danced a Foxtrot for her idol Grace Kelly. It was fun and original, but for some reason, wasn’t my favorite.
“That was an incredible routine. You brought elegance,” Carrie Ann said. “Don’t take this the wrong way but when I watch you, I’m trying to find something you’re doing wrong,” Julianne said, noting it was nearly perfect! “You have this Hollywood sweetheart feel that is so infectious. But we told you before about the shoulders,” Bruno agreed with Julianne. They got a 28, and boos for the judges from the audience.
Tamar Braxton and Valentin Chmerkovskiy were disappointed that the package last week portrayed her as a spoiled, arrogant brat. For icon week, Tamar chose her sister, singer and actress Toni Braxton. They danced a Paso Doble. “You look stunning. That choreography was [perfect] to showcase the kind of dancer you are, which is a great one,” Julianne said. “All the elements were there. Sharp, focused, I was there with you, my darling,” Bruno said. “You are not the only one who thinks you’re an incredible dancer! You hammered that Paso Doble but you lifted your foot,” Carrie Ann said. They got a 28!
The Dance Off — Six Couples Face Off
Nick and Sharna got immunity, so they did not have to dance in the challenge.
Each couple had to prepare three styles of dance for this instant challenge. For the first time, it’s America’s choice, and fans voted live to see who would win.
Bindi and Derek picked Witney and Carlos as their dance-off opponents. They danced the Jive, with a fun partner switch in the end! “This is probably the closest I’ve ever seen,” Julianne said. “That was thrilling,” Bruno said. All three judges picked Carlos and Witney while 64 percent of America preferred Bindi and Derek. Carlos and Witney got the extra 2 points.
Tamar and Val picked to battle Alexa and Mark. Alexa and Mark chose the Cha Cha. “Sexy mamas, those girls are hot! But somebody had an edge,” Bruno screamed. “One had more flavor, one had more traditional,” Carrie Ann said. “I definitely preferred one over the other, so you’ll have to wait and see!” Julianne said. Julianne and Bruno picked Tamar and Val. Carrie Ann and 76 percent of America picked Alexa and Mark, so Alexa and Mark got the points!
Watch it here:
Andy and Allison and Alek and Lindsay danced the Samba. “Both of y’all need to work on your Sambas,” Carrie Ann said. “Andy, I thought you actually did a really good job on the Samba,” Julianne said. “Alek, you present the girl so well,” Bruno said. The three judges picked Andy and Allison. 54 percent of America also picked Andy and Allison.
Watch the dance-off:
At the end of the night, another couple was eliminated. We had to say goodbye to Andy and Allison.
