After the heartbreaking news of Lamar Odom’s hospitalization, Piers Morgan decided it was his job to share his opinion of the situation — basically stating that when Lamar married a Kardashian, his life was ruined. But to me, the whole story is just to get people talking about Piers again.
I’m disappointed that I have to give him any press since that’s what he wanted, but someone has to say something about Piers Morgan‘s completely disgusting blog post on the UK’s DailyMail. In case you missed it, he felt the need to share his opinion on what happened to Lamar Odom, who is currently fighting for his life after being found unconscious at Dennis Hof’s Love Ranch. Piers starts out with the headline: “Lamar Odom’s tragedy is that he just couldn’t keep up with the Kardashians.” And that is just the start.
I just want to start by stating the obvious: I get that it’s easy to blame the Kardashians for things, that they’re easy targets, and that many people don’t like them — but none of us, not me or you, know them personally, nor did we know what Lamar was going through. Piers states clearly in his “story” that he’s friends with Kim Kardashian and that he really likes and respects her. But when someone you really like has someone they love in the hospital, you don’t write things like this about them.
There can’t be many more pitiful, humiliating ways to potentially end your life than face down in an infamous Nevada brothel, vomiting uncontrollably from the overdose of herbal Viagra you took to keep up with myriad prostitutes during a 4-day binge. As I write, Lamar Odom is clinging on. He’s in a coma, distraught family and friends at his bedside. But his dignity and reputation are already dead, shredded at the altar of reality television.
Piers also says he’s not blaming his estranged wife, Khloe Kardashian and the family, but “society” for being sucked into this. Again I ask, how is he qualified to say who’s fault it is? Is it anyone’s job to blame another for someone’s “overdose?” No, especially not a journalist. It makes me wonder if it’s just a need to be in the spotlight for Piers, or a need to say an opinion that he knows will get people’s blood boiling. Either way, it’s tasteless. Everyone is welcome to their opinion, but this is someone’s life here — a man who has children, a father, friends, and yes, the Kardashians who are also his family. Even on KUWTK we see Khloe talking about how she will do anything to help Lamar get through a tough time — because that’s what you do for family. Regardless of the things they’ve done in their life, or the things he’s done in his, no one deserves to be blamed for someone else’s mishaps.
Lamar chose to marry Khloe, be featured on Keeping Up with the Kardashians, and have his own spin-off with her. And yes the world chose to watch. Apparently it’s our fault now for his overdose? I don’t think so. Let me know what you guys think, HollywoodLifers and in the meantime, keep Lamar and his family and friends in your prayers. Congratulations Piers, we’re talking about you.
