‘The Voice’: Krista Hughes’ Elimination — She Had Trouble Connecting To Song – Hollywood Life

‘The Voice’: Krista Hughes Admits It Was ‘Super Hard’ To ‘Connect’ In Battle Rounds

Krista Hughes was sadly eliminated during the Battle Rounds on 'The Voice,' and HollywoodLife.com spoke EXCLUSIVELY with the singer about what she found difficult during this next level of the competition. Plus, find out what it was like to work with Blake Shelton...and so much more! After totally killing it in the Blind Auditions on The Voice and turning four chairs, Krista Hughes had a whole new element of the reality singing competition to deal with while performing on Blake Shelton's team in the Battle Rounds. Krista dished EXCLUSIVELY to HollywoodLife.com about what she had to work "super hard" on to prepare for the biggest night of her life, during which she ultimately fell short.

During the Battles, Krista faced off against Chris Crump, singing the emotional Brad Paisley song “When I Get Where I’m Going.” While the country track fell right in Krista’s wheelhouse, there was something more than just perfectly singing the notes that Blake wanted to see.

“I had to work super hard on learning the harmonies and still being able to sing with emotion and connect with the song,” she admitted to HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY. “Instead of just focusing on the mechanics of the song.” We thought the West Virginia native sounded totally amazing during the performance, but Blake chose Chris, and with no buttons pushed for a Steal, Krista was sent packing.

Connecting to the song was something Krista had no trouble doing in the Blind Auditions — in fact, she chose her audition song, “Angel From Montgomery,” because of the connection she felt to it. “I was able to emotionally connect with it and that is what I look for whenever selecting a song,” Krista explained. “I want to tell a story and sing with such emotion that people hang on every word.” Unfortunately, in the Battle Rounds, the Coach selects the song, so Krista wasn’t able to decide on something she had a personal feeling toward.

But, still, being able to work with one of the biggest names in country music is something she will never forget. “The best part about working with Blake is the wisdom that he offers,” Krista gushed. “He has so much to teach.”

HollywoodLifers, do you think Krista should have won her match-up in the Battle Rounds?
