Blame it on the lawyers! Tony Dovolani is devastated that he and celeb partner, Kim Zolciak, were forced to withdraw from ‘Dancing With The Stars,’ but he wants fans to know that the decision was NOT made by the dancing duo OR show producers. Here’s the real reason Kim won’t be able to continue!
Kim Zolciak, 37, and Tony Dovolani would’ve loved to continue competing on Dancing With The Stars, but rules are rules. Tony opened up about their forced withdrawal after the show’s Sept. 28 episode, and revealed it was a hard fight to keep Kim on the dance floor…but eventually ABC’s lawyers’ decision overruled that of producers.
“I think the producers were fighting until the last minute to keep us in the competition,” Tony told Us Weekly. “I want to continue so bad, it’s not even funny. That’s why I put a tweet out there saying, ‘Bring us back!’ Producers want us back, I want to be back, Kim wants to be back — so the only people they needed to convince was the lawyers.”
As HollywoodLife.com previously reported, Kim and Tony didn’t find out until during the live show (for which Kim appeared via video chat) that they would not be able to continue dancing — and it was a complete blindside. But, ever since the show premiered in 2005, the rules have stated that if someone cannot dance because of illness or injury, they will be eliminated from the competition. Although Kim was able to dance following her mini stroke last week — she even practiced all day Sept. 26 — she didn’t get cleared from her doctors to fly from Atlanta to Los Angeles, and therefore, she wasn’t present on the dance floor.
In previous seasons, some contestants had gotten hurt during or after camera blocking and dress rehearsals on-set, and in those instances, they were able to be scored on their rehearsal scores. But since Kim was unable to participate even in that portion of the show, there was nothing to score her on, and the layers were forced to stick to the rules. Fans are still petitioning ABC to let the Don’t Be Tardy star return to DWTS, but no update from the show or network has been made.
