Scary stuff! Kim Zolciak’s stroke might have actually revealed an underlying health issue that would have meant severe consequences for the DWTS contestant, according to a shocking report. We have EXCLUSIVE details about how her stroke possibly saved her life.
Kim Zolciak, 37, not only had a TIA (mini-stroke) on September 24, but underwent a heart procedure that potentially saved her life, a new report claims. We’re so thankful to hear that she’s okay! Click through to read what we learned EXCLUSIVELY about the possible health problem Kim is facing.
After being admitted to a hospital in Atlanta for a terrifying mini-stroke, Kim was set to be released after her symptoms disappeared. However, doctors received test results that indicated Kim had a serious, life-threatening heart problem — and immediate action needed to be taken, according to TMZ. That problem might be be arrhythmia, according to Dr. Roger Mignosa, D.O., whom HollywoodLife.com spoke to EXCLUSIVELY.
“A TIA could indicate arrhythmia, an irregular heart beat,” Dr. Mignosa says. “This could have been the reason for Kim’s lengthy hospital stay. In most cases, the body resolves itself within 24 hours after a mini-stroke. The doctors obviously had concern to keep Kim in the hospital longer than usual. Hospitalization is based on risk factors.”
“There are two things that the doctors would most probably do if they discovered that Kim has an irregular heartbeat. They would have to control the rate of her heart with a beta blocker to slow it down. They would also give her a blood thinner such as Coumadin,” Dr. Mignosa explains. “One of the risk factors of having a stroke, is having a mini-stroke. She’s a female, she’s young, so she wouldn’t be screened for a cardiovascular problem. So she is fortunate that she didn’t have a more severe issue that led to the discovery of a heart problem.”
Good information to know! Doctors reportedly performed a yet-unknown procedure on poor Kim, Friday, September 25; no information has been released yet whether or not it was based on arrhythmia. If the Don’t Be Tardy star hadn’t been admitted for the TIA, doctors might have never caught this apparently underlying heart issue — and it reportedly could’ve proven fatal if left untreated, according to TMZ. What an absolute nightmare.
Dr. Mignosa says , “They may have performed an angiogram to see if the coronary arteries in her heart are blocked and they may also do an ultrasound of her neck to see if she has any blood clots that could go to the brain. The irregular heartbeat they can see right away on the EKG.”
It makes sense then to see Kim’s Instagram post on September 25, in which she was wearing an oxygen mask, and said she was “going in for one more procedure.” She didn’t elaborate on that, but we have a feeling that it’s how doctors were addressing her heart issue. So scary!
Kim’s Horrifying Stroke
Kim caught a red eye fight from Los Angeles to Atlanta on September 22, to be home with her six kids and husband after taping the DWTS live show. Soon after she arrived home, she began experiencing stroke-like symptoms: her entire left side was numb, and she lost the ability to speak!
Thankfully, Kim made it to the hospital quickly, crediting her husband, daughter Brielle, and Brielle’s boyfriend for reacting quickly to the scary situation. And she felt almost immediately better; Kim was taking selfies from her hospital bed after the emergency was over!
We’re so glad to hear that not only was Kim’s TIA addressed quickly, but that doctors were able to catch her heart problem too. HollywoodLifers, help us send our best wishes to Kim and her family during this trying time.
