Hugh Jackman has chosen his successor. The ‘X-Men’ star is hanging up his claws after ‘The Wolverine’ sequel, and Hugh knows who he wants to take over as the next Wolverine — Tom Hardy! Needless to say, fans freaked out over the possibility.
No one will ever replace Hugh Jackman, 46, as Wolverine, but if anyone is going to assume the responsibilities, Tom Hardy, 38, would be an amazing pick. During a recent interview, Hugh admitted that the Mad Max: Fury Road star would make a “great Wolverine.” After basically getting Hugh’s blessing, fans are pretty on board with the idea.
“I haven’t really given it a lot of thought,” Hugh told MTV. “I’ve been asked that question a lot, and I’m always like, ‘I don’t wanna make it too easy on the studio to replace me,’ you know? I’ve still got one more to do. I’m sure they’re already talking about it, and there’s some actor [they’ve told] ‘shh, keep it quiet but we want you next.’”

However, he does have someone in mind if they’re going for a younger Wolverine. “He’s younger than me for sure. I think Tom Hardy would be a great Wolverine.” Check out the fan reactions below!

I think Hugh Jackman is spot on. Tom Hardy would definitely be perfect for future role of Wolverine.

Tom Hardy to be the next Wolverine? Please?

Um, raise your hand if Hugh just made the best choice EVER! Tom’s already got experience in the superhero world. He played the villainous Bane in The Dark Knight Rises. Tom’s career has been taking off over the past few months with rumors circulating that he could play the next James Bond!
Hugh has been hinting for a while that he’ll be retiring as the Wolverine. In March 2015, he posted a photo of his claws with the caption, “WOLVERINE…ONE LAST TIME. HJ.”
Hugh will be starring in the upcoming sequel to The Wolverine. X-Men: Apocalypse is set to hit theaters in 2016, but there’s no word yet on whether Hugh will be making an appearance. After that, it’s all up in the air for Wolverine. In the age of reboots and recasts, anything can happen!
HollywoodLifers, do you think Tom would be a good choice for the next Wolverine? Let us know!
