So touching. Pope Francis went out of his way to meet a teenage girl who is suffering from Spina Bifida. On arriving to St. Patrick’s Cathedral, he lovingly blesses the young girl — watch!
Stephanie Gabaud, 17, from White Plains, will never forget Sept. 24, 2015. That’s the day that Pope Francis, 78, lovingly blessed her at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City, in front of hundreds of people.
Before Pope Francis made his way to the front of the church to lead evening prayers for dignitaries and members of the clergy, he caught sight of Stephanie. She was in a wheelchair and cried upon seeing him. He bent down and blessed Stephanie and told her she should pray for him and he would pray for her. He then kissed her before making his way up the aisle of the church.
“I said I was going to pray for him and he said he was going to pray for me,” she later told the New York Post. “He actually gave me a hug and a kiss on the forehead. Oh, my God, as soon as he did that, I was tearing up.”
She is currently recovering from her fourth surgery of this year, according to ABC 7. Stephanie was able to travel to NYC thanks to a group from her home town.
Pope Francis’ Busy, Busy Schedule
The evening prayer at St. Patrick’s was the only item on the Pope’s scheduled for Sept. 24, after spending 2 and a half days in Washington D.C. His day will be jam-packed on Sept. 25, with a scheduled visit to the United Nations General-Assembly, a visit to the 9/11 Memorial and Museum, a trip up to a Harlem school and even a tour through Central Park. We’re exhausted just thinking about it!
