Now that Kim Zolciak is recovering from her TIA stroke, Dr. Bruce Lee, M.D., explains EXCLUSIVELY to HollywoodLife.com how she can prevent this scary incident from happening again.
Kim Zolciak, 37, should be back on her feet in no time after traveling on a flight from Los Angeles, Calif. to Atlanta, Ga. on Sept. 23. However, now is the time for Kim and her doctors to discuss prevention of future strokes, especially since TIA strokes like the one she had leaves her with a “significantly higher” risk of having another one.
So, what’s the next step for Kim? Aside from focusing on recovery, and hopefully getting back on the Dancing With The Stars stage, she needs to keep her health in check to avoid having another terrifying TIA stroke.
“The doctors need to determine why Kim is forming blood clots,” Dr. Bruce Lee, M.D. tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY. “She could have a disorder of the blood system which causes the body to make blood clots. She could be taking a medication, like birth control, which can create blood clots or she could have a large fibroid tumor which is causing blood clots. She needs to be thoroughly evaluated.”
Dr. Lee also explained that someone who is prone to forming blood clots should never be immobile for too long. For instance, “When traveling on an airplane, it is a standard recommendation to always get up and walk around every hour.” This tip in particular could have definitely helped prevent Kim’s first stroke, so hopefully she remembers this the next time she flies.
As long as Kim is treated properly, Dr. Lee explains that she should be able to go back to her routine activities — including DWTS — in no time. That’s great news, so we are totally rooting for Kim!
