One of country music’s biggest stars is moving on — but at 77 years old, we don’t blame him! Kenny Rogers announced he’ll be retiring on the ‘TODAY’ Show Sept. 25. Watch him break the news here!
Kenny Rogers, 77, is ready to fold ’em for good — well, almost! The country singer will be retiring from the music industry for good, but he’ll give the fans what they want by embarking on one more HUGE tour before he hangs his boots up.
“I’m going to do a big worldwide tour and it’s going to be my last,” the 77-year-old said on TODAY Sept. 25. “I’m going to say goodbye at that point. I’ve done this long enough. I wrote in my book that sometimes there’s a fine line between being driven and being selfish, and I think I crossed that line when I was younger. I really want to be there with my kids and my wife. They’re very important to me. And I don’t see enough of them. That was kind of my goal.”
We’re going to miss seeing Kenny in the country music scene, but at least he’s giving one more go at it before stepping away for good! But, really, we can’t blame him for wanting to move on — he’s 77 years old, and has been doing this since 1958. In case you don’t want to do the math, that’s almost 60 years.
“I will miss it, but I swore that I would do this until I embarrassed myself and I’m getting there…to where I don’t walk around well,” he admitted. “My mobility is really driving me crazy.” Really, though, Kenny looked great during his TODAY Show appearance, and we have no doubt that he’ll be able to keep the energy up for this last tour.
Kenny has been married to his wife, Wanda Miller, for 14 years, and it’s so great that they’ll actually be able to spend some real quality time with one another. The pair have two kids together, while “The Gambler” singer also has three children from his previous marriages (this is his fifth). Get ready for some family time, kids!
