We hope Celine Dion’s heart is able to go on. The songbird has been tending to her ailing husband Rene Angelil for nearly a year, but has returned to her Las Vegas residency upon his wishes. In his honor, she paid a beautiful tribute to her beloved partner.
Celine Dion, 47, returned to performing on Aug. 29 much to the delight of her fans. She had taken a leave of absence following husband Rene Angelil‘s battle with throat cancer. Now, Celine is back to playing to packed houses a Caesar’s Palace and at her third show back, she gave her fans a special look at her precious family.

Now this is the power of love! Celine Dion gave her fans personal glimpses into her private life with her husband and three children, Rene-Charles, 14 and twins Nelson and Eddy, 4. But it was her husband Rene that moved the audience the most. “Tonight’s show is very special to me, but what the heck, you know everything about me” she told the cheering crowd. “Every proud mother just loves to show off and I think I found just the right song to do that. So just think of this big screen behind me and think of it as a very big iPad.”
In the below video, Rene is seen for the first time at the 2:19 mark. He’s shown again at 2:49 and the shot with his son is at the 4:45 mark. It’s beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time.
It was that moment she began to sing a breathtaking rendition of “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” that the screen came alive. It started with a montage of home videos featuring her family at home and on vacation. The video showed footage of her kids playing and having a great time, but it’s the three shots of Rene that moved the audience to erupt in thunderous applause. The shot that garnered the biggest cheers was of Rene gesturing to one of his twins. So cute!
Why Celine Decided To Return To Las Vegas
It was a surprising moment when Celine decided to return to Vegas. “I am scared of losing him, because it’s bad. But I have to show myself, my husband and my kids that I’m strong and we’re okay,” to People magazine back in May. “When I stopped performing, I wanted to be just a wife and a mother.” After Rene was diagnosed with cancer for a third time, he urged his wife to resume her Vegas show. While we are glad Celine is back, we hope Rene keeps up the good fight against his third bout with cancer and beats it for good this time.
