A trip to Broadway inspires the designers to think outside of the box — but some designers totally let us down and one was ultimately sent home. Want to know who? Read on for our ‘Project Runway’ recap.
It’s time to work on Project Runway! Swapnil decides to reduce his smoking time and increase his working time — he clearly learned from last week’s episode. The designers are treated to a Broadway show and get to aee Finding Neverland. Heidi Klum saw it with her children and loved it. They are greeted at the theater by Tim Gunn and Matthew Morrison. The challenge? They can do “anything” — freedom to literally do whatever they want, inspired by the show. Can we take a minute to appreciate how cute Matthew Morrison is?! The designers don’t have to work until tomorrow, where they’ll meet Tim at Mood and will have $250 to shop. Now they get to enjoy the show — and for some it is their first Broadway show ever.
I’ve seen the play and I can relate to the designers who cried throughout the show — I’ve been there. After their day on Broadway, it is back to work. The fantasy theme has everyone feeling inspired and upbeat, but Tim reminds them of the cold, hard truth — one good designer is bound to go home, as only one is safe. Swapnil has cut out his smoking breaks and is determined to make Tim proud — especially when he tells him it’s obvious that he’s only working at about 40%.
While the workroom is full of so many versatile looks, only time will tell who is in and who is out. Runway day is here! Heidi says she love the runway show, calling it “very creative” — and I agree. This just might be the most talented group that we’ve ever seen on the show!
Although Swapnil pushed himself, he was just safe — and seemed bummed not to be in the top. Edmond’s vest received mixed messages, but overall the construction and design was great. This week, I was totally on board with everything Nina Garcia had to say. I also really loved Kelly’s look — it’s so cool to see her transform as a designer.
Candice is the winner — she says she’s so happy her message came through. This look was beyond gorgeous. From the interesting design to the construction and fabric, everything about it was amazing — I am dying to wear it! She clearly was the winner by a longshot here.
In disappointing news, Ashley totally missed the mark with this challenge — her dress was a mess. I can’t wait to see how she rebounds next week!
In the end, it came down to Lindsey and Laurie — and Lindsey was out. While I think she was great on the show, she definitely didn’t push herself and her designs left the judges feeling lackluster. It was definitely her time to go, but it isn’t easy — the remaining designers are all just so talented. I would love to see her come back on All Stars!
