Lena Dunham landed a VIP guest in Hillary Clinton for the first edition of her newsletter! In a preview for the one-on-one, the presidential candidate proudly admits to being a feminist, and explains to all women why they shouldn’t be afraid to say they are, too!
It’s confirmed: Hillary Clinton is one proud feminist! She dishes all about the topic during an interview with Lena Dunham for the actress’ new website, and also expresses her shock about females who say they aren’t on-board with feminism. Watch here!
In the preview clip, Lena gets right to what she and her readers want to know about the Democratic candidate: Are you a feminist? Flashing a huge smile, Hillary responds with an enthusiastic “yes” and admits she can’t understand how there are women who don’t support feminism.
“I’m always a little bit puzzled when any woman of any age, but particularly young women, says something like, and you’ve heard it, something like, ‘Well, I believe in equal rights but I’m not a feminist.'” Hillary says. “Well, a feminist is, by definition, someone who believes in equal rights. I’m hoping people aren’t afraid to say, ‘That doesn’t mean you hate men!’ It just means that we believe women have the same rights as men: Politically, culturally, socially, economically. That’s what it means.”
Lena has always been very vocal about her feminist viewpoint — she even helped Taylor Swift, 25, realize she’s a proud feminist — so it’s no surprise that this is one of the topics she wanted to hit hard on in the interview with a female presidential candidate. The rest of the interview won’t air until Tuesday, Sept. 29, on the Girls star’s newsletter, but Lena — whose HBO show you can buy on DVD here — is known to be super open, without much of a filter, so we can imagine she’ll probably push Hillary to do the same! Stay tuned…
HollywoodLifers, tell us: Are you a feminist? And if you weren’t before, did Hillary’s explanation change your mind?
