Hajj Pilgrimage Stampede Kills Over 700: John Kerry & More Send Prayers

With over 700 people killed during an Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca when a stampede broke out, many celebrities and politicians from all over the world are sending thoughts, prayers, and condolences to those lost. Click inside to see their tweets.

On Thursday, Sept. 24, a deadly stampede in the city of Mina, Saudi Arabia. Sadly, the stampede that left over 700 people dead and over 800 people injured was the most violent accident to occur during the hajj in over 25 years. Khalid al-Falih, the Saudi Health Minister, explained that the stampede could have been caused by “the movement of some pilgrims” who refused to follow rules while on the hajj.
