Selena Gomez ‘Same Old Love’: Is She Singing About Justin Bieber Romance?

Selena Gomez released her emotionally-charged video for her new single ‘Same Old Love,’ and it appears to be filled with clues that it’s about her ex love, Justin Bieber. What do you think?

Selena Gomez is back! The 23-year-old pop star released her video for “Same Old Love” on September 22 and it’s even better than we expected. But was it inspired by her roller coaster relationship with Justin Bieber, 21? Everything from the emotional imagery to lyrics such as, “you left in peace, left me in pieces,” seem to suggest that he was her muse for the breakup song. Watch it here!

Somehow, Selena and Justin always seem to come back to each other, so it doesn’t seem too far off that “Same Old Love” might have something to do with their back-and-forth relationship, right? Thankfully, we don’t have to wonder as we now have the song’s lyrics to refer to. As we previously hypothesized, the lyrics seem to point directly to her rocky on-again-off-again relationship with the Biebs. Case-in-point, the opening verse: “Take away your things and go/You can’t take back what you said, I know/I’ve heard it all before, at least a million times/I’m not one to forget, you know.”

Whoa. Is it just us or does everything about those lyrics seem to reflect Jelena 100 percent? Despite their breakup and Selena claiming she’s single, these two just can’t seem to quit each other. At one point, Selena even sings, “I’m so sick of that same old love, that s***, it tears me up/I’m so sick of that same old love, my body’s had enough.” The Revival singer famously became fed up with Justin because of his notorious bad boy behavior, and yet, even when they seemed to grow apart and run in different circles, they somehow managed to find their way back to each other. Same old love indeed!

Still, after releasing the song, Selena explained that the inspiration behind the lyrics has to do with a different kind of love. “I think ‘Same Old Love’ represents a different kind of identity with love,” she told Radio Disney in an interview airing next month. “The first people you love in your life are your parents. So for me, my dad is the first male figure I had in my life. And how much it means to respect your parents and have a healthy relationship with them because it trails on into your relationships when you’re older.”
