Pope Francis announced his trip to the United States in November 2014, and now almost a year later, the time has finally come! Once his visit became totally official upon landing in Washington, D.C. at 4 p.m. on Sept. 22, the excitement for his visit is rising at a rapid pace. Even if you might not get the chance to see him while he’s here, it’s still a huge deal — you can watch his arrival right here!
This will be Pope Francis’ first trip to America, so it makes total sense that there is such a frenzy around his arrival! The Pope’s visit marks the first in seven years since Benedict XVI came in 2008. In fact, he is the fourth pope to come to the United States in the history of the Vatican! During his time in D.C., the Pope will be meeting with President Obama, which is also a big deal as he will be just the third pope to meet with a president while visiting America! After leaving D.C., the Pope heads to New York City from the evening of Sept. 24 through Sept. 25 and ends in Philadelphia on Sept. 26 and Sept. 27. While in NYC, he’ll hold a special mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral and at Madison Square Garden, plus a procession through Central Park. He’s going to be quite the busy guy!
