The word ‘epic’ gets thrown around a lot these days, but that is truly the only way to describe this. Prior to the Emmy Awards, Julie Louis-Dreyfus snapped a selfie with the one and only Mel Brooks and it has us feeling things.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus is a queen, obviously, and the Emmy Awards on Sept. 20 brought her together with a king. When JLD’s series Veep won outstanding comedy series, none other than Mel Brooks was on hand to present the statue to Julia and co. Naturally, when Julia went up onstage, she attempted to snap a selfie with the legend, who has a whopping four Emmys himself. The pic didn’t exactly work out, but it didn’t matter because JLD had totally nailed one before the show even began!
Julia shared the most adorable photo of she and Mel on Twitter, immediately following the awards telecast. Not only does the pic feature she and Mel beaming, but Julia even adorned Mel’s head with a cartoon crown– it’s only appropriate!
Julia acknowledged Mel’s royal accessory, and captioned the photo, “He is the King. @VeepHBO #emmys.” But wait, because it gets even better. Following that perfect piece of social media, Mel responded to Julia, and was quite appreciative that she returned his crown to him. “You are too sweet– also I’d misplaced that crown years ago, so nice of you to return it,” he wrote on Twitter, having quoted Julia’s tweet.
Just one living legend tweeting a selfie to another living legend. No big deal. And if you need to relive Julia’s hilarious onstage selfie attempt, we have it for you below. You’re welcome.
Along with Veep winning big, Julia herself went on to win yet another Emmy this year, bringing her total to an insane six trophies. And yet, she still feels like a mere peasant to Mel’s royal king. Perspective, y’all!
What do you think of Julia and Mel’s selfie? And how did you like Julia trying to take the selfie while she was on stage?
