Fred Armisen walked the red carpet at the 2015 Emmys while sporting the latest in cutting edge fashion: a Freddy Krueger glove! Was the ‘Portlandia’ star being funny while wearing this hot new accessory or was he paying tribute to the late Wes Craven? Click to see!
No, viewers watching the 2015 Emmys weren’t dreaming. When Fred Armisen, 48, walked the red carpet at the award show, he wore some interesting fashion accessories. At the black tie event, Fred had one of red and green. That wasn’t his most unusual wardrobe choice: the former Saturday Night Live star also wore a Freddy Krueger glove!
Yikes! Natasha Lyonne couldn’t get too close as she and Fred walked side-by-side down the red carpet at the Sept. 20 event, reports Decider. Fred showed off his razor-tipped glove while standing next to The Orange Is The New Black star, looking as cozy as one can be while sporting knives-for-fingers. Natasha wore a simple black dress that ended in some tasteful fringe. Wait — did Fred slice up her outfit before they arrived?
Fred didn’t say why he wore the glove, but the red-and-green tie is the same color as Freddy Krueger’s sweater. Perhaps Fred felt a connection to the A Nightmare On Elm Street character since they both have the same first name? Or, his outfit choices could be a tribute to Freddy’s creator, the late Wes Craven.
Wes passed away on Aug. 30 after a long battle with brain cancer. The creator of A Nightmare on Elm Street and Scream was 76 years old, but he was still involved in filmmaking. He even was the Executive Producer of the Scream television series on MTV. His death caused an outpouring of grief from Neve Campbell, Skeet Ulrich, Courtney Cox and more.
This could have been Fred’s subtle tribute to Wes, sending love from one Fred to the creator of another. Or, it could be that Fred wants to be the next person to portray Freddy on screen, after Robert Eungland and Jackie Earle Haley. Either way, bonus points to Fred for wearing it on the correct hand! Nice.
What do you think about Fred’s fashion choices at the 2015 Emmys, HollywoodLifers? Do you think it was a tribute to Wes Craven?
