Prepare to nerd out! Apple is speeding up its plans to manufacture the world’s first smart car, and it could be here as soon as 2019, according to a new report! See how fans are reacting here.
It been rumored for months now that Apple was looking to get into the car business and now it appears we finally have some confirmation. According to a new report, the tech brand is not only building an electric car in a now not-so-top-secret mission called “Project Titan,” but also aims to begin selling it as soon as 2019. Naturally, fans of the tech giant are freaking out, and have taken to social media to voice their excitement. See what some of Apple’s biggest fans have to say below!
While Apple has been rumored to be working on the project for over a year now, The Wall Street Journal reports that the company has just now designated Project Titan as a “committed project,” with a release date set for 2019. To help facilitate the faster launch, Apple has been hard at work racking up a number of high-profile automotive hirings, including former Ford executive Steve Zadesky, who is reportedly helming the project. Though there have been indications suggesting Apple is exploring autonomous vehicles as part of its car project, WSJ‘s sources say the first car Apple releases will not be driverless, with that functionality perhaps coming at a later date. No matter, fans were just as excited to hear about the news, and immediately took to social media to share their reactions. Here’s what they’re saying:

While Apple has not commented on the report, Steven Colbert, 51, recently asked CEO Tim Cook, 54, in a Sept. 15 interview if the company was interested in making a driverless car, to which he said “we look at a number of things along the way, and we decide to really put our energies in a few of them.” Vague, but it’s certainly a start.
